Very happy that #Lúthien doesn't seem to be in pain after her massive #surgery on tuesday, see this post (in #Dutch).

She's very unhappy if I put her into the cage, but I have to: if she exerts too much force on her hind leg, chances are the whole construction will break. That would mean the entire leg will have to be amputated.

So I let her out as much as I can. I abandoned the desktop PC I use for work, because that's on the second floor. I work on my laptop now, in the living room. She loves to be with me.

The #crowdfund I started to pay the huge #vet bill is here:

In #Dutch, yes, but you know how to translate that, right..?

Surgery to correct a detached retina happened two days ago. (Fast medical response!)

I've been working hard to heal as fast as I can.

Surgeon tells me to keep my head down as much as possible, so I arrange pillows to sleep or nap on my stomach without pressing on my eye.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retina

At the 24-hour post-op checkup, the surgeon only had to glance briefly inside my eye before he said everything looked good and said I could go go home...come back in a week for another checkup.

The surgery was performed in El Paso, and a gas bubble was deliberately left in my eye. My home in the mountains is at high elevation. Until that bubble disappears, I have to convalesce in the Tularosa Basin.

A day before surgery, my peripheral vision loss was a small black cloud. A day after surgery it was a light gray cloud. This morning, it's hard to notice the vision degradation in that area. This is encouraging progress.

Chinese scientists transplant gene-modified pig liver into human body
By Jacinta Bowler and Ellen Phiddian

The trial was part of a small — but growing — group of animal-to-human organ transplants, in a practice known as "xenotransplantation".  But will pig livers eventually replace human organ transplants?

Hip update…

...kind of... 😇 I start writing this post 5 days before the scheduled call from the surgeon. I got the puncture done 8 days ago. And the surgeon will call me in 5 days (as I write this). Unfortunately... It's a 15:00 call, so I'll have the whole day to be anxious about it. As I'm already anxious about it now. I mean, I know I need a surgery. I know that hip bowl (or is it a cup?) needs to be placed in the right position again. So my leg can stop "wobbling", so it can stop tingling, […]

Heading towards spring 🌻

As I start this post, it's early March. When this post will be done and ready for sharing, we'll be very close to the start of spring, which is on March 20th, according to the calendar. Of course this doesn't mean that the weather will flip a switch and there's no more cold days/nights. As there is a chance of frost till we've passed the "Ice Saints" days in May, usually around 11-15th of that month. But usually it does mean that we're slowly heading for some warmer weather. It's not  guaranteed either that it will be beautiful, sunny, days. We're in the Netherlands after all, which means there will be rain as well. Lenteweer 2025 (sorry, Dutch link, dunno if there is a translation option). But, whatever happens, whatever weather we're getting, it will be spring... 🌼 […]
