I have to admit that in the last few years I have been watching quite a lot of videos on YouTube, but I am growing more and more tired of these 10 minute chunks of unrelated stuff that are not going anywhere. Not sure whether I have changed or the YouTube community, but I guess it frees me up to seek some longer videos, video series, and books. Anyone feeling the same?

Today 6 Sep 2024 I'll be joining a panel at Ars Electronica (State of the Archive: Current Approaches to Digital Archives and Archives for Digital [Art]), organised by Vanessa Hannesschläger, I’ll announce the Distributed Archive project which allows to simultaneously search the Neural and V2_ websites and archive, an outcome of the The Alex Adriaansens Residency I’ve been awarded in 2023 and join the discussion on “current approaches to digitizing, preserving and (subsequently) presenting cultural heritage” with Katharina Pektor, Sandra Sonnleitner, and Chiara Zuanni. The panel takes place at POSTCITY, First Floor, Lecture Stage, between 15:00 – 16:00.

I’m curious, does anybody use (or have ever used) SharePlay?

When it was announced a couple of years back, I was like “This is Apple’s initiative to bring shared media consumption to their AR headset when it arrives!”. But it doesn’t seem to have gone that way? I don’t think I’ve seen much adoption of it …

I can’t use it personally since it requires FaceTime (at least for video, I think?) and FaceTime does not work in the UAE 😛 Plus, our other use case, sharing videos while on a plane wouldn’t work either …

I know some of the streaming service apps have SharePlay integration but I don’t believe the ones I use, Netflix and Amazon Prime, do 😀

So I’m curious, is anybody else using SharePlay a lot (or even a little bit)?
