#OTD 22 March 1870 Mary Ellen "Mollie" Vosseler was born near Decatur, Illinois. Her father, George, was a German immigrant about 60 years old. Her mother, Elizabeth Childers Wilson, was about 36 and the daughter of an Alabama farmer. Tragically, both parents died by the time Mollie was 10 and her older brother, John, was 12. The children lost touch with their Wilson brothers, as they were raised by their older Vosseler half-sister. Mollie disavowed her sister, which leaves me wondering why my great-grandmother hid her German relatives from her descendants.
