For the latest wave of #Twitter people, it takes a bit of time to get settled here. Don't worry about the instance you're on, but once you've been here a little while I'd recommend moving to a smallish one, probably centred around your interests. You can't usually see who other people follow, so it can be tricky to build up a feed, but use hashtags a lot and people will find you. There is etiquette but it's not very different from the etiquette on Twitter, apart from using Alt Text on images
And if you like #Jazz recommendations, as well as other regular #Playlists and #MusicRecommendations, or if you're interested in #LanguageLearning and #Conglangs, or #UKPolitics, #UKLabour, or #USPolitics, or if you want someone to play #Chess with online, then give me a follow too
Oh, and if you're using lots of hashtags, it's also good inclusive practice to capitalise the first letter of each word. Just a small thing that makes a big difference for people using screen readers
I post a #playlist every month of #music I've enjoyed that month, and it's usually pretty cross-genre. I also post a bunch of end-of-year playlists too, on a number of themes, so if you like hearing #MusicRecs, then also hit the follow on me
I'm a member of the #LabourParty and I do miss the #UKLabour community that Twitter had, there are definitely fewer of us here currently. I'm not here for the internecine factional warfare, it's one reason I was wanting to leave Twitter before Musk took over, so don't bring that to me, although that said, I am opinionated about the Kremlinology of Labour so yeah I might be guilty of that myself from time to time. Mostly I want to see your doorknocking selfies during election time
Oh, one last thing for new people, not everyone you meet on here is on Mastodon, even though you're interacting with them here. There's other places like Calkey and Lemmy which are connected to here, but are separate again. This is what people mean when they talk about the Fediverse. Fediverse isn't synonymous with Mastodon.
Oh, last thing I forgot to add for new #Twitter #TwitterMigration people. Don't use the Mastodon app. There are about a billion other apps out there. Have fun with them. Experiment.
No one who's been active on here for a while uses the Mastodon app
@pontulo What app do you recommend?
@heroinhatesyou I use Tusky
@pontulo Thanks! That's a good starting point for me to experiment. Cheers!
@pontulo Metatext has become my go-to-app, though the web-view works wonderfully everywhere <3
@pontulo Expect that to change. Real Fast.
@pontulo Good reminder
