The National #Travel Survey (NTS) mid-year estimates for the year ending June 2024 show trends in travel behaviour in #England. People made an average of 922 trips, a 1% increase compared to 2023, though 3% lower than in 2019. Private transport, including car use, saw increases, while public #transport use was mixed, with bus travel outside #London rising due to a £2 fare cap. Active travel, such as walking, increased by 7% compared to pre-pandemic levels, while cycling remained stable.
The most common trip purposes were shopping, commuting, and "other" trips, such as walking. Business and personal trips saw notable increases, while commuting decreased by 5%. Despite overall increases, travel patterns remain below pre-pandemic levels, with personal travel not fully returning to pre-COVID trends.
Regionally, London had the highest use of active and public transport, while the East and West Midlands had the highest private transport use.
