The average cost to build a new apartment in Texas is ~$150,000. In California, it's ~$430,000. That's 2.8x more. Lots of factors contribute to the increased cost but the most significant is time. That's shameful. Elected officials in California should be working tirelessly to get rid of needless process, bureaucracy, and red tap to reduce building cost as much as possible.

I used Google Earth extensively while researching my thread on hillside letters in the Bay Area. It was invaluable for searching the hills near local high schools for unreported hillside letters and numbers. And while searching those digital hills I kept on finding feral labyrinths, perched like ephemeral crowns, on their crests. Which was unexpected, and more than a little intriguing... #sfba 🧵
