Ok Canadians, you know the drill...
Ban X/Twitter, a state propaganda outlet of a hostile foreign government, from activity in Canada.

Musk's a turd, and X is a sewer, but asking the government to control who can and who can't speak is not a good idea. Even if you trust this government to do the right thing in this one case, who's to say the next government doesn't decide to ban an organization or site you like?
Censorship is censorship. Canada shouldn't be eager to get into that game.

We're not asking them to host our platform, just their own. We already have our own platforms (the fediverse servers).
We want them to set up their own server in the fediverse and publish their messages from it.
Then when X, BlueSky or other centralized server goes all totalitarian, our government can still reach us.

You quoted me speaking against having the government shut down a speaker (X, in this case), but the above comment doesn't make sense in that context.
I'm not asking anybody to host anything they don't want to. I'm not asking anybody to use or to abstain from using X or the fediverse or anything else.
I'm just saying "don't urge the government (of Canada, in this case) to use its monopoly on the use of force to stop any particular party from speaking, because censorship doesn't end well and that power always ends up in the hands of those who would abuse it".
