When #Apple releases a new generation of #hardware, I like to see how the Apple Tax is holding up. The new #Mac #Mini doesn't disappoint - all figures in CDN$.
Also see alt-text.
Upgrade from 24 to 64GB of RAM: $750. Retail price of 64GB of RAM: $250.
Upgr. from tiny 512GB SSD to 8TB: $3000. Retail price of fast 8TB SSD: $900.
Price for maxed-out Mini M4: $6,000 without display, keyboard, mouse, or extra software.
Not making another full post, but the M4-equipped #MacBook Pro today is just as #ludicrous.
A maxed-out 14" #MBP is over (CDN) $9000, without extra software or warranty upgrades.
Nine grand! For a 14" laptop.
@cazabon at least the M-series has an excuse on the RAM front because the RAM is co-located with the actual processor die rather than using slotted or soldered RAM modules? I think that's a real price one pays for the performance of the machine. Not that I think there isn't a huge markup, but it is at least not a part you could just buy off the shelf and slap in
I'm aware the RAM is on the processor module. That's a good reason for why you can't add memory after the fact, but it is absolutely not an excuse for charging 3x retail price for it.
@cazabon I guess Tim Apple feels otherwise
As long as the Apple faithful keep paying it, they'll keep charging it.
