While I was away from the Fediverse, it's interesting that I got a Follow from @LibertyOverGov because the reason I was away from the Fediverse is the #HBO #documentary "Pee Wee Herman as Himself", which wound up with the two scandals that the LAPD pinned on him. Thing is, the LAPD was that kind of scum for decades: they're just as anti-gay as they are prejudiced against Blacks--see also Rodney King.

@claralistensprechen3rd Re: Pee Wee ~ Just finished watching the same HBO doc. Thought it well done and agree that they needed a political scapegoat. Loved the early days and Groundlings sections and the evolution of the persona. Sorry to learn Rubens was so very ill.

@SecondStix The Groundlings were the biggest surprise to me--I had zero idea how much of a role Tom Hartman played in the development of Pee Wee, and I'm certainly a Tom Hartman fan, #RIP. I wouldn't characterize the LAPD as needing a political scapegoat--seems to me those bigots needed a high profile target to pat themselves on the back about ruining the life of. The more private Paul wanted to be about his private life, the more they gloated about "busting" him out in the open.
Seems to me things would have gone better if he followed in the footsteps of Liberace about that aspect so that he could maintain the high profile and the bigots wouldn't have gotten such big giggles out of busting him, thereby making himself less of a target...and Liberace was what was an era when the bigotry was worse.

@claralistensprechen3rd Re: Rubens ~ It sounded like Phil Hartman wanted some recognition for his contribution and didn't feel as if he received it. In terms of the entertainers, one had a long residency in Las Vegas playing for adults, Rubens had an eclectic following and a children's show, which made him a more likely and easy target.
