NEW YORK (AP) — "Columbia University agreed Friday to put its Middle East studies department under new supervision and overhaul its rules for protests and student discipline, acquiescing to an extraordinary ultimatum by the Trump administration to implement those and other changes or risk losing billions of dollars in federal funding.
"As part of the sweeping reforms, the university will also adopt a new definition of antisemitism and expand 'intellectual diversity' by staffing up its Institute for Israel and Jewish Studies, according to a letter published Friday by the interim president, Katrina Armstrong.
"The announcement drew immediate condemnation from some faculty and free speech groups, who accused the university of caving to President Donald Trump’s largely unprecedented intrusion upon the school’s academic freedom.
"'Columbia’s #capitulation endangers #AcademicFreedom and #CampusExpression nationwide,' Donna Lieberman, the executive director of the New York #CivilLibertiesUnion said in a statement.
"Earlier this month, the Trump administration pulled $400 million in research grants and other funding over the university’s handling of protests against Israel’s military campaign in Gaza. As a precondition to restoring those funds — along with billions more in future grants — federal officials last week demanded the university immediately enact nine separate reforms to its academic and security policies."

@LetsRoc Easy to break a knuckle on someone's jaw. A jab to the nose is incredibly painful, will likely bleed, and is aces for getting someone to back off. But you're punching basically straight at their eyes, so their reaction is likely to be fast. I actually prefer the open hand slap to the button - the point where the jaw hinges. Hit someone there with the heel of your hand and it's lights out. Plus a slap is fast and they usually dont see it coming.

Hey, I took karate lessons as well! My grandparents and mother encouraged it so I could fight back against bullies! I still remember a lot of the moves -- especially the heel of the hand one. @Wyatt_H_Knott @LetsRoc
@DoomsdaysCW @LetsRoc The most important thing that I have tried to teach my son is that you fight how you train. If youve never done a pushup or tried to figure out the diff between a jab and a cross, you're unlikely to do well in a fistfight. Same with guns, you have to practice so that when the adrenalin dumps, slap and rack becomes muscle memory. And fitness applies there too-I remember my uncle, when I was like 14, squeezing my bicep as I tried to hold up a heavy pistol, and laughing at me.
