I have to stop thinking "I can't believe..." every time I come across a new US Poli headline.

Of course there is a golden Mount Rushmore monument with Trump's head on display at Mar-a-Lago.

@sand I didn’t quite know what to expect this 2nd time, but it is so much worse. Someone told me they unplugged to avoid all news, but I can’t do that. I read the news & listen to podcasts daily. Despite knowing this was going to be bad, I had no idea how bad. I had that same thought yesterday—I have to stop being surprised. It’s hard to believe the pettiness, cruelty, ignorance, racism.. until I think about US history, and it’s not. It just feels like old times.
#uspol

@biped808 @sand I have never seen any of this in all the times and I am an old timer. This is far beyond the ridiculousness of Karl Rove and Newt Gingrich, who started this whole process in motion that ended up being called Project 2025. Every person on the right has turned fascist. This is nothing like old times.

Man of Sand

@Beachbum @biped808 I also feel like the response from the public is kind of passive. Or at least public reaction isn't being reported.

A few vandalized Teslas but hardly anything that would appear as though the people of America are upset.

America so apathetic

@sand @Beachbum I know there are protests and dissent right now, but lots of news feels the same—same stories covered by multiple outlets. I don’t think protests are getting as much coverage, and they’re also not as large and organized. So, less news coverage.

@sand @Beachbum I want to believe dems can take some seats in upcoming elections. However, I won’t be surprised if Trump declares martial law before his term is up. Many of us wanted to believe that America had changed. But many folks are showing us they don’t want it to. Racism, destruction of information and education. Attempts to suppress opposition to authority. Destruction of social programs. It isn’t looking good for we the people.

@sand @Beachbum I do think there will be a pendulum swing and folks may realize their lives are not improving. I hope that doesn’t come too late.

@biped808 I don't think the pendulum swings - it's actually broken LOL. I don't think his supporters care about their quality of life.

As long as the other side is losing, they are happy to cut off their nose to spite the face. But that's just from my perspective as a Canadian

@sand It makes so little sense to me that his supporters, many poor, don't see how this is hurting them. But you're right. The political climate is so toxic! Not at all what I remember in the past.
