I think this pattern might be kinda fun. But I might get bored with it after I do the caston.
@Archergal It's really pretty! (Not something I'd wear, but still.. I like the idea of it.)
@emery For good or ill, I usually only knit things that look interesting. The odds of me actually WEARING any of them is very small.
@Archergal I knit a bunch of shawls in 2020-21, and I really enjoyed the process of making them. I think they're all beautiful (and very different from each other)... and I haven't worn any of them.
But I also knit lots of hats and socks as a mindless fidget activity, and I do wear those!
@emery I do wear some small shawls/shawlettes as neckwarmers, or I did when I was riding the bike more. And I have handmade socks that I wear. But I don't enjoy KNITTING socks that much (making my hands hurt more these days). Hats tend to slide backwards off the back of my head.
@Archergal Maybe this spring I'll find an excuse to get a little dressy and wear one of the shawls.
@emery
I never used to think I'd wear shawls. But after I started wearing one I quickly really enjoyed them and began knitting and wearing other shawls as well. Plus, they make great warm scarves in the winter... so, year round use!
@emery
For me, the trick to liking wearing triangular shawls was this:
Instead of just wearing it wrapped around like some 'old spinster woman' cartoon, I learned that if i gave the wrapping end a half-twist in the front before securing it with a cool shawl pin, it was really beautiful and stylin'. (To do that, I start with giving the 'wrapping end' a little more length when positioning the shawl accross my shoulders and back to start.)
@redbanjer It's not that I don't like them. I wore them when I worked in an office; now that I work at home I have no need to dress up or put effort into not freezing to death at my desk. :)
And with my hair long as it is these days (it was very short, pre-WFH), wearing a shawl or scarf for any length of time causes a terrible snarl at the nape of my neck.
@emery
Oh, well I never wear shawls unless I'm out and about and want to look nice. If I'm home I just throw on a sweater. We just decide what works for us i guess. :)
