Colin Purrington<p>Reticulated fruitworm moth (Cenopis reticulatana). The beak-like structure that extends beyond the head is composed of the labial palpi, sensory organs that have a long list of abilities including detection of CO2. Females tend to have larger palps, and I gather that that might be because they are the ones who use CO2 to assess host plant quality during oviposition. <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/tortricidae" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>tortricidae</span></a> <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/moth" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>moth</span></a> <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/moths" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>moths</span></a> <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/mothtodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mothtodon</span></a> <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/mothing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mothing</span></a> <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/lepidoptera" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>lepidoptera</span></a> <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/insects" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>insects</span></a> <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/entomology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>entomology</span></a> <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/nature" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nature</span></a> <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/NationalMothWeek" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NationalMothWeek</span></a></p>
