Lovely weather all day, good pub lunch, and a chance to ring at the most northerly tower in Leicestershire.

This bell weighs 3 tons, and is twice the weight of a bell I ring regularly, and my heaviest bell to ring so far.

JamesPleased with my <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/bellringing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bellringing</a> efforts today. After an unsuccessful quarter peal attempt last month (my first) we attempted the same today with the same band and successfully rang a 1260 Plain Bob Doubles with no false starts. It was not only my first successful quarter peal but I was also ringing inside. <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/lookto" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#lookto</a>

The YouTube auto generated subtitles *really* do not like the places Leicester or Leicestershire, and oddly enough, keeps spelling the name Cyril as sirel. I'm at the stage where my fingers can type Leicestershire correctly about 95% of the time as long as I don't think about it too much!

Rang York, and Hereward, neither of which we've rung recently. Realised we've rung 3 quarter peals this year so far, which averages one a week - don't think we'll keep that up! (Though we have at least one more pencilled in for this month)

Jackie HAbout a million years ago I was a bellringer and I miss it so much that despite the chronic pain and general shitness I was just looking up the weights of the local bells to see which might be light enough to not totally disable me. PB6 for Aoife to tick off for her LtR. Went in my car and got fuel on the way home. Didn't think I'd need to defrost as I have a car cover, took cover off and came back 5 mins later to ice on the windscreen! Swapped cars back to usual positions, topped up washer with antifreeze, and put the car back to bed - all ready in case we need a 4x4 in the inches of snow we're due tonight 😋

Ground floor ring, so get to see their lovely tree. We all went over in my car (including Dan in the back seat!) to give the jeep a run, and a chance for me to drive as its still light. Now back to cleaning the bathrooms.

Plenty of ringing for everyone over xmas instead, but Heather wanted to practice. She rang a bell entirely on her own and set it! Kate had a good practice ringing rounds with the simulator. Us teachers also got to have a go, I rang Cambridge6 and didn't do too badly considering the sensor placement makes the bell a little odd struck. (Note, lower % = better ringing)

As we've lots of extra ringing over Christmas decided the 2 practice nights before new year will be learners' sessions only with silenced bells. A good opportunity to get lots of 1-2-1 work done with the learners.

Nice to meet the current university of Leicester ringers who came to visit. And as ever, nice to chat in the pub afterwards. Video from last week when we were late to practice and got to hear the bells from outside. They were ringing plain bob triples.

We wouldn't be able to ring all these bells without metalworkers!
