Others have said this, but I'll give it a shot.
"#Responsible encryption" doesn't exist.
"#Lawful access" doesn't exist.
#Encryption is #math. There is no math that can be done by "the good guys" but cannot be done by "the bad guys".
Anyone who tells you you can have #privacy while still allowing the #government or anyone else #LawfulAccess is #lying to you.
They are trying to get you to give up your #privacy. #Resist them. Demand end-to-end encryption.
@cazabon Indeed, these buzzwords are just 21 Century versions of the 90s Clipper chip arguments.
That being said, "encryption is math" is a weak argument in the court; of course a copyrighted song in flac form is also just math, but that does not prevent it from being legislated. There are much better arguments for E2EE, both or practical and foundational character; the cryptography stack exchange has an extensive list of questions related to these issues.
@ykonstant I agree that there are other, perhaps better examples and arguments.
But I disagree that a FLAC file is math. It's data; there is no formula that lets you reproduce it starting from a simple initial state. With math, if you know the initial conditions and the rules/formulae/algorithms, anyone can reproduce the final state correctly.
I think the #math #explanation works for the interested layman who knows nothing of #encryption.
