How has fascism in Britain got this far? Neoliberalism has opened the door for it
theguardian.com/commentisfree/
Why seek to nix the financial regulations inspired by the 2008 crash, when the likely result is a repeat performance? Why reject a wealth tax, when a 2% levy on assets of over £10m could raise £24bn a year? Why not adopt the measures proposed by Patriotic Millionaires, generating £60bn a year? Or those suggested by political economist Richard Murphy, worth £90bn in tax revenue? Why abandon plans to tax non-doms properly? Why not demand an end to the Bank of England’s destructive quantitative tightening?

@Sadderp The mainstream press led by the BBC have regularly platformed the far right and those with enormous wealth. It should be clear to all that our press is not on the side of fairness, social inclusion, wealth equality or anything close to what lots of us would consider decency. The powerful are not on my side.

@IndyRichard

Also the Grauniad is one of the worst offenders when it comes to 'Red washing' this vile, fashy Thatcher Continuity Party formerly known as 'Labour'.

@Sadderp

@essjayjay @Sadderp They showed their true colours during the Scottish independence campaign when they neatly fell into line with the almost blanket opinion from press and supported the UK (apparently for ever more) We see the same attitude to the monarchy. What does it say about our press when there are almost no voices prepared to speak out?

@IndyRichard

They were also one of the first UK shit-rags to start demonising trans people.

Left wing they ain't.

@Sadderp

@essjayjay @IndyRichard @Sadderp
And they had a massive anti Corbyn campaign which did much to destroy his chances of becoming PM.

However they do still have a few good journalists.

@essjayjay @IndyRichard @Sadderp I wonder what my late father - and grandfather (local councillor and trade union official) - would have thought of today's 'Labour' Party.

Some 50 years ago, my father said of his political upbringing: "We were proud to call ourselves socialists".
