The Trump administration seems to be bad for America's travel industry. @AxiosNews reports on a 20% drop in foreigners passing through customs at the busiest U.S. airports towards the end of March. A Goldman Sachs note said that some of the drop "is likely attributable to tighter immigration policy," but the timing — after the escalation of tariff news — suggests that "a more antagonistic policy stance by the Trump administration is contributing to a voluntary decline in visits."

"Based on some of the route cuts and overall sentiment we're hearing from airlines, I wouldn't be surprised to see the arrivals rates for international travelers drop even further in the coming weeks," Sean Cudahy, aviation reporter at The Points Guy, told Axios.

There’s a big billboard on IH-35 just north of San Antonio advertising an appearance by Lara Trump at a GOP fundraiser on May 15th in New Braunfels, Comal County, Texas. Donald Trump got about 75% of the votes in Comal County, which has a large hospitality industry.

"The United States is one of the top three most visited countries in the world. The big draw cards – cities such as San Francisco, New York and Chicago and national parks such as Yosemite – have attracted international tourists for decades. This combined with its role as a global business powerhouse meant it had 66.5 million visitors in 2023 – and the 2024 figure is expected to be higher still.

But a lot has changed in recent months, and 2025’s figures may not be as strong. The 2024 reelection of Donald Trump as the president of the United States and the consequential changes in foreign diplomacy and relations, alongside internal cultural shifts, are starting to change global attitudes towards the US – attitudes that appear to be affecting tourists’ desire to visit the US."

"We had begun the morning sipping traditional māmaki tea and eating homemade banana bread in the sunshine, as Waipā's guide, Kelsey Ke'alohilani Rogers, shared the legend of kalo (taro in Hawaiian) and how this root vegetable became an iconic part of Hawaiian culture. According to local beliefs, Earth Mother and Sky Father had a stillborn son. From the spot where he was buried, the first kalo plant grew, later nourishingtheir next son, Hāloa, the first human. "This is why kalo is more than food; it's family," Rogers explained." - bbc.com/travel/article/2025033
