Sigh, there's some work that's come across my virtual desk that would be amazing. I'm quoting on it this weekend and I very desperately want it. It would be so interesting and aligns with my values -- my ideal project.
Gosh, I hope I get it...
Years. Of people doing video calls.
Each side is looking at screen --- not the camera... which makes each side "talking to each other"... but not looking at each other.
--
Ditto people shooting video staring at the fold out screen on the camera... and not the camera lens.
I have done too much this week. Repeatedly.
I took a few hours just drawing earlier. Away from the housework, away from the computer, away from the phone.
I haven't even photographed the picture because it's not finished. Humans complicate life so much. We have to do so many THINGS, communicate with so many others, have expectations placed on us and we place them on other people.
Many THINGS are necessary.
But taking time away, perhaps an hour daily to just...be...is needed.

"Birth rates are falling across the world, and no one seems to know why. But maybe the answer is simpler than we think: people don’t trust the future anymore. This essay introduces the idea of temporal inflation — a hidden force that could be reshaping civilization itself."
#writerscoffeeclub 14 May. How do you use cyclic structures in your work? Part 2
What I find interesting about this question is not as it relates to my writing, but how it shows up an oddness in my taste.
On one hand, I like literature that goes somewhere. I like an arc and something achieved.
On the other many of my favorite movies are cyclic.
Lost Highway
Mullhuland Dr.
Tarantino
Pandora's Box (Louise Brooks)
The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (H. Bogart)
Just interesting, not profound (I think)

One day, right before I woke up, I had a bad dream that a housecat was about of pierce parts of my legs with its claws.
When I woke up, I realized those parts of my legs were sore.
After I thought about the dream for a bit, I came to the conclusion that having a housecat as your sleep paralysis demon isn't the worst thing in the world.
(I don't have a cat, but I grew up with cats, and I am quite fond of them.)

Religion, like a fly trapped in amber, freezes into place the wisdom and ignorance of a specific culture, within a text that is venerated and applied across time and space, to contexts the original authors could never fully fathom or appreciate.

As an adult, I've learned the future is far less clear than you think it is.
(I actually said this during a job interview, after I was asked the standard question, "Where do you see yourself in X years?")

Here are some quotes and ideas I have generated, either in response to things that have happened in my own life, or in response to things I have heard, watched, or read.
These ideas are often referred to as "shower thoughts," even though I didn't necessarily generate these ideas while I was in the shower.
