It says something unflattering about #Texas how they responded to this. The gambler didn't cheat. He didn't steal anything. He bought his tickets fair and square according to the lottery's rules. The only thing he did was notice that the payout for winning exceeded the cost of buying a ticket for every possible combination, so he spent the money and took his prize.

USPol: time sensitive: anti-mask bills in #Texas are being heard Monday April 13th.

These include: Texas Senate Bill (SB) 2876-- increases criminal penalty for participating in a riot while wearing a mask or other face covering. A “riot” is defined as a group of 7 or more people.

Clear The Air ATX requests that you email Texas senators ASAP and if you're in #Austin you can go to the Capitol 9AM Monday to give testimony or drop a card.

Please don't think that my preference for the magpie of England to the charmless grackle of Texas means that I am blind to what can be evoked by birds in this part of North America.

I will never forget seeing an abandoned house in Caldwell, TX; on its charred timbers and derelict roofing sat a flock of black vultures, their silhouettes sinister against a gloomy sky. Their presence stirred within me a renewed awareness of the blood, bones, and bullets buried not far beneath the car dealerships and chambers of commerce...

An old world bird I miss in Texas is the magpie.

As far as I know, the grackle has none of the magpie's associations with omens and rhymes, so is but a dull substitute.

Perhaps I'm just having a moment of homesickness...
