My cellular carrier won't let me send email to my own SMS email. They will of course offer a paid service that will allow me to email my own phone.

I also have a paid, parked, Internet SMS number. The entire industry got together, decided that we are not allowed to send SMS messages anymore, and offered plans to pay $20 a month to use a SMS TEXT number that we're ALREADY PAYING FOR.

They are literally converting a free service that has been free since forever, and arbitrarily adding mail servers to their blocklist for no reason. Then they are taking the paid service, and saying, pay us $20 more per month for your SMS, and we'll let you actually use it. Thieves, all of them.

What's up lately with companies jerking their customers around with free offers that THEY offered?

There is the restaurant that volunteered a "Spend $80 get $8 off" coupon. It was unclear whether that was $8 off the current order or a coupon for the future. Whatever. We bought 2 deserts and an appetizer to get to $85. They delete the appetizer to make the order $79.96. No coupon.

Today, on the last day of an 8,200 nautical mile journey, I had to load an app onto my phone, give an unknown company a credit card number, and authorize a $10 charge when I only needed $7 just to do two loads of laundry.

The last time I was forced to do this on a trip, I tried to get the balance back and when they refused, I complained to the App Store and I got all of my money back. Free laundry. It looks like I'll be doing that again today. #boating #BoatLife #ripoffs

The many varieties of #fountainpens over the past 140 yrs is all the proof anyone needs to see that there is no valid reason for anyone to #infringe upon the #tradedress and #designs of another company. It is extremely #unethical to enrich yourself by copying the work of those who made the investment and shouldered the market risk establishing their original products, and anyone who buys these #ripoffs or endorses them in any way, including by reviewing them, should be ashamed of themselves.

' Amazon's search-ordering is enshittified: it shifts value from sellers and shoppers (you!) to the company. A combination of self-preferencing (upranking Amazon's own knock-offs), pay-for-placement (Amazon ads), other forms of payola (whether a merchant is paying for Prime), and "junk ads" (that don't match your search) turn Amazon's search-ordering into a rigged casino game.

It really feels like living in today means nonstop bombardment with , , and con artists throughout my waking hours. I’m 40. I know ripoffs are nothing new. Is it a lot worse than it used to be, or do I see the past (and other countries) in rose colored glasses?
