Cynni's Blog<p><strong>Learning from a poll</strong></p>
A while ago, I was berated by someone on Mastodon, that I didn't take vision impaired people seriously, as I used altbot/AI to help me with my alt texts... A friend told me that this was very "ableist", and I had heard people use that term, but I was unfamiliar with it until I looked it up. Another friend, who is deaf and blind, told me that she encountered this behavior a lot by other blind people she met with. But it made me wonder a bit more about alt texts.
Then, I mentioned being sad that some people share wonderful images but then don't include alt texts. And I don't boost toots without alts, as I know several of my "pocket friends" rely on screen readers and I don't want them to feel left out. But then I got curious, and I wondered if it was really only vision impaired people that used the alt texts. And that's when my phone exploded! 😂
