More photos from #handsoff yesterday in #pdx

Looking for media coverage of the #PDX #HandsOff protests yesterday, the most comprehensive seems to be from the local TV news stations (KATU2, KOIN6, KGW8, FOX12), while most newspapers are lagging or silent.

Oregon Public Broadcasting, the Portland Tribune, and the Oregon Capital Chronicle had full stories as well. But the biggest newspaper here, The Oregonian, mostly live-blogged street closures and shared reports from two small towns around the state. The Portland Mercury and Willamette Week have nothing yet; the Mercury reported on last weekend's much smaller Tesla Takedown protest several days later, so maybe they'll get around to this one eventually. Willamette Week seems to be not covering protests at all though.

Special mention to Jonathan Maus, the solo journalist behind bikeportland.org, who published the collection of photos he took while he was (naturally) biking around the march.

Also on Mississippi Ave. in Portland is a quirky little store called Paxton Gate. Google Maps describes it as a "Boutique shop specializing in taxidermy, fossils, framed insects, science kits, jewelry & plants." The shop claims that all taxidermy is "ethically sourced".

Finished the folding bike today too.

Upgraded the stem to a metal one, and to adapt to any standard handlebars. New 7 speed thumb shifter to replace the broken grip shifter. New brake levers, new grips. Replaced the saddle with one I had on another bike. Installed lighter removable plastic fenders. Added a bottle or travel mug holder. Bought a Rhinowalk bag.

Looking to sell it. US$150. I have too many bikes now. Please be local. Prefer you can come get it from me.

It was a fun project. I learned a lot.

I was in a sea of people today at the main #HandsOff rally in Portland, Oregon! Here is a video of the march wrapping around the west entry ramp onto the Morrison Bridge. I’ve read an estimate of 3000 folks there today but I bet it was a lot more.

Recently back from the #HandsOff protest march in Portland, Oregon. Tens of thousands of people marching in solidarity; it was a very affirming experience. Those of you who know #PDX can imagine: the march started near Saturday Market, went south on Naito, then up and across the Morrison Bridge, then up Grand, across the Burnside Bridge and back to the waterfront park. As we finished the march, there were still people just starting it - it was basically solid humans all the way around. #Resist
