I love this photo, taken by a Newcastle United FC official photographer from the open-topped bus that toured the city centre. That's our son in the football shirt with his family cheering the team from a 1st floor restaurant window (in the warm!)

This Saturday as part of the Everyday Algorithms exhibition: Reimagine your relationship with machines in this workshop to produce queer love letters using Bash scripting with @siusoon and Mara Karagianni.
Saturday 5 April
12pm — 3pm
The NewBridge Project, #Newcastle upon Tyne, NE2 1AL
This workshop aims to challenge the gender norms in free software development. We will begin with a cultural introduction to Unix and #Bash, exploring how they interact with the operating system. Bash, a command line interface and scripting language created in 1989 for UNIX Systems, is useful for system administration and automation.
During the workshop, you will use the terminal, either in pairs, in groups, or individually, to write and create a #queer love letter in Bash. These letters will explore various forms of desire, intimacy, and struggle, allowing us to reimagine what our relationship with the machines we use might look like.
Free, booking is essential: https://thenewbridgeproject.com/events/introducing-bash/

The £3.4m Prudhoe Street #Metro junction replacement project in #Newcastle has won the Outstanding Project of the Year (under £20m) at the Spotlight Rail Awards, marking its second award. The project, completed in just two weekends, was carried out by #Nexus and delivery partner Smarttrax Rail. The works replaced Metro's busiest junction, ensuring minimal disruption with two weekend closures. The complex project involved pumping wet concrete down to the tunnel floor, future-proofing Metro infrastructure for years. The project previously won Project of the Year at the Global Light Rail Awards. The renewal completes the track replacement from #Jesmond to #Gateshead.

#Uk army Leakage all over the streets of #Newcastle!
'A remarkable discovery was made by a resident of Newcastle. Stacks of papers containing secret military information from Catterick garrison, incl. soldiers' ranks, email addresses, shift schedules, and info about the issuance of weapons, were found on one of the city's streets.
The #dox also contained information related to access to the weapons storage and security system of the military facility."

I watched the #nufc #carabaocup trophy parade today and it hit extra hard now that I’ve visited the toon. We stayed at that sandeman hotel where they unfurled that gigantic Eddie Howe banner and walked along the streets of the bus route. Super stoked for the #geordie nation and the people of #newcastle Now let’s make trophy parades a common event up there! ️

This is the fabulously tiled Centurion bar at Newcastle Central Station - a lost gem for decades! (Look it up.) I always wondered how they cleaned those tiles - that poor guy has the longest hoover extension I've ever seen!
Sitting under the clock at the Central Station on a nippy but sunny first day of spring. It never fails to amaze me that so much history is at my feet here - on top of Hadrian's Wall with the castle at the end of the platform. London bound for big wool show tomorrow!
So I should re #introduce myself; used to host my own instance at artemai when that was a thing; decided to get back on Mastodon again because the rest of social is a dumpsterfire.
