A beautiful, deeply personal essay on racism from SFF writer Andy Duncan, freely available from the Journal on the Fantastic in the Arts. I've met Andy on multiple occasions, and have even been his student at a 3-day workshop on writing literary criticism on science fiction. And I love his fiction and nonfiction.

TWIST. A mixture of half tea and half coffee; likewise brandy, beer, and eggs. A good twist; a good appetite. To twist it down apace; to eat heartily.

I've started a cool online short story club as an antidote traditional in-person book clubs that make members read books that are too long, too expensive, and just not worth the effort.
The first selection: "The Bishop" by Anton Chekhov, the father of the modern short story. Please join us!

it was during that same decade that she joined the french communist party, the PCF. no wonder the main theme of the novel to which i alluded at the start ('abahn sabana david') is the art of refusal & the freedom of a defiant 'NO!'

#art #history: imagine being such a gifted author that one of your most radical & inventive novels was mainly a product of automatic writing? best known, perhaps, for providing the screenplay that would become alain resnais' 'hiroshima mon amour' - which is not a bad place to start if you've not yet become acquainted with marguerite duras (born #otd in 1914) - she largely escaped acclaim outside of france. this is regrettable. Made roasted vegetables with tzaziki. Reading "Dr Seraphicus" by Domontovych, written in 1947, a unique novel in Ukrainian literature, about a queer relationship between two men. I didn't even know this author existed until recently. The other novel that I read of is was "Girl with a bear" and it is truly remarkable.

In Welsh legends, the fastest of King Arthur's knights were the brothers Henwas and Henbedestyr. Both were quicker than any horse. Their brother Sgilti Light-Foot's footsteps were so light, branches didn't break under him. Even grass didn't bend under his feet. Gustave Dore
