PBS News · Supreme Court declines to hear challenge to Maryland assault weapons banThe Maryland law was passed after the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut that killed 20 children and six adults.

"The man accused of attacking a a pro-Israel peace parade with molotov cocktails in Boulder, Colorado, on Sunday told authorities he planned to use a gun and took a concealed firearm class – but was denied the purchase because he was not a US citizen."

Wow. Imagine what this man would have done with a gun. Imagine how much MORE damage he would have caused. It's almost like #GunControl works. 🤔

That eventual case will require the court to apply its recently minted test for assessing constitutional challenges to #GunControl measures, that requires judges to strike down such laws unless they are “consistent with the nation’s historical tradition of firearm regulation.”

In a 10-to-5 ruling in Aug, the US Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit, in VA, said the Maryland #law satisfied that history-based test, which was set out in #SCOTUS 2022 ruling, NY State Rifle & Pistol Assn v. Bruen.

WASHINGTON − The Supreme Court on June 2 preserved Maryland’s ban on #assault-style weapons and Rhode Island's ban on high-capacity magazines, declining for now to decide if they meet the high court’s controversial bar for #gun restrictions.
While that's a victory for gun control advocates − and it came over the objections of several conservative justices − the issue could come back to the high court.

'Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., together with New York State Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal and Assemblymember Linda Rosenthal, has introduced updated legislation (S227A/A1777A) aimed at curbing the spread of 3D printed guns and auto sears—small, inexpensive devices capable of converting semi-automatic firearms into fully automatic weapons.' 3dprintingindustry.com/news/ne #3dprinting #guncontrol

America, the homeland of guns! Shouldn't the 2nd amendment be a war crime?

Here's how we figured the number of guns illegally trafficked from the US across the border to Mexico

phys.org/news/2025-05-figured-

> Since 2008, the U.S. has spent over US$3 billion to help stabilize Mexico and stem its surge in extreme violence. The U.S. gun industry and interest group lobbyists have undercut these efforts by advocating for lax regulation and enforcement.

I'm exasperated by 99% of the comments that I'm seeing about what should be blamed for the murder of two Israeli embassy employees in Washington DC. Almost everyone is blaming either antisemitism or the situation in Gaza.

What we SHOULD be blaming, in my opinion, is the availability of guns. The murderer was able to carry out two murders in seconds BECAUSE HE HAD A GUN. If he hadn't had a gun, he may well have carried out an attack using a kitchen knife or other weapon, and it's possible that his victims would still have died. However, there would have been a much greater chance of them surviving.

There will always be people who wish to do others harm. We can't stop every attack. What we can do, and must do, is make attacks less likely to be lethal. We need gun control in the United State.

1. #rkba #guncontrol #2A I am in no way advocating violence. But many people, including my friends (but not myself), voted for Trump because they believed he would support their right to own firearms under the Second Amendment. But seriously, when the uber rich and “Christian Nationalists” take over, and Trump no longer needs our votes, does anyone seriously believe that the upper #1% would hesitate for one second to disarm the rest of us unwashed, minority, angry, disenfranchised heathens?
