#Timmins and District Hospital just said that "normal operations" at their hospital means infecting patients and staff with airborne respiratory viruses like #COVID, #measles, #flu etc.

Today In Labor History April 9, 1930: The IWW organized the 1700-member crew of the Leviathan, the world’s largest ship. Originally a German passenger ship, the U.S. seized it in 1917, during World War I, when it was docked in New York harbor. The U.S. subsequently used it to transport its troops to Europe. In September, 1918, the Leviathan left New Jersey, filled with men dying from Influenza. Dozens perished from the flu on the passage over.

COVID numbers are going up, but #flu and #RSV cases continue to drop in #NYC. We still don't have accurate hospitalization numbers for #influenza and #RSVirus here, but it looks like the overall risk of hospitalization and death from acute airborne infectious diseases is dropping.

I'm going to plan for indoor dining and singing, and maybe travel, but as long as this many people are dying and being hospitalized I'll #WearAMask in elevators, trains, doctor's offices, pharmacies and supermarkets!

Influenza positive test results in NYC Highlights for week ending March 29, 2025 (Week 13) 4,465 specimens were positive for influenza, a 18% decrease from the previous week; 23% were positive for influenza 409 specimens were positive for RSV, a 12% decrease from the previous week.
