I take one moment to remind myself how actual lions look and then I suddenly start to draw them differently than my usual heavily TLK influenced style.

And yet even when I try to switch up styles, one cub still looks like Taka (Scar)

So for the 2nd drawing, I decided to lean into it more xD

Nice #sloth for lazy weekend.
Funnily I decided to draw it after watching some dumb horror with dark comedy elements... About vengeful sloth in university campus (Sloth wasn't even realistic in that movie).

I felt like drawing a bird so I used a random bird generator and landed on the Bornean Leafbird, which I did not know!
I might try and do that more often!

A Mixture of Cubism & Surrealism

This graphite pencil drawing ‘The Hague Forest - 21-06-18’ is a mixture of cubism, roundism and surrealism. After Roundism 12-06-18 I wanted something different. Nothing more boring than to do the same kind of motif over and over again. It’s not the first time I tried out such a mixture. Perhaps you remember a previous drawing called ‘Strange Goings on at ‘t Meertje - 10-02-16 (Sold)’. That may have been the first attempt to employ such a combination of styles. Now I felt it was about time to try it out again and see what may stem from my pencil. You see, there was a special event that inspired me to do so.

Just Around The Corner

Normally, riding my bike through The Hague Forest (Haagse Bos) just around the corner I see only beauty. On a sunny day and in season it usually is a leafy light and shadow play. But one time I happened to bike through it at 3 AM in the dead of night. You see, I was coming from a party in Benoordenhout. The shortest yet the creepiest way back home was through this forest with no street lights at all. Wouldn’t you just love the challenge of overcoming deep fears for the darkness in such woods? Then I came across the central lake in the forest and creatures big and small came out. I tried to capture this feel during daytime.

A Forest

As such, a forest is a archetype for all our fears. Because behind every tree perverts, notorious highwaymen and other strange folks can dwell. So you better be aware.

Waves perspective.

"Rest area" is the superpower of painters and comic book artists.

Moebius' style for example was all about pushing the rest area to the extreme. This lets the viewer's eye finish the picture, instead of tediously rendering details and having something that looks too busy.

Teacups. Tiny monsters. Enjoying a peaceful moment to themselves. Humans aren't the only ones who enjoy a spot of tea now and again. Little monsters have been know to slip quietly into kitchens when no one is around and sneak a sip of two of freshly brewed sweetness. This sleepy creature drank a bit too much sweet jasmine tea and found it hard to stay awake. Shhhhhh...
