I can't believe so many people are building #decks like this. See the fundamental flaw?
Weight is being born by the sheer strength of brackets and their fasteners. This isn't even the worst design I've seen. It can work with carriage bolts, but people see it and think you can just use brackets and deck screws.
Why bother when there's a time-tested, proven design where the wood bears all the weight?
Posts support beams.
Beams support joists.
Joists support decking.
You should be able to remove all the metal parts, and the deck won't fall apart unless you push it over.
The metal is there to support relatively light, transient lateral loads like wind and seismic activity, not potentially tons of weight year after year.

I can’t get over how adorable these mini playing card decks are. In about 2 weeks I launch a Kickstarter campaign to fund 2 sets of decks in standard & mini sizes. Scroll back a little bit to see photos of the other deck!

I like watchin videos of guys building beautifully stained patio decks in their yards from the ground up on their own no help and all 450 comments are some version of “you pressure washed before you sanded and you bought a dogshit stain. That wont last a year you piece of shit”
Any #cleaning tips for removing grease stains from a TPO membrane on a roof deck? Already used a power washer and detergent, seems to be permenantly soaked into the membrane itself. Any advice appreciated!
Someone on Instagram took a photo of one of my Creatures Oracle cards, my most recent deck. It seems fitting that they’ve pulled the #magic card, and then made it look like this! I love seeing my artwork out in the wild, especially when it’s obvious that it’s being loved.
