🔺 Structural damage update
We know that people are seeing images from Jasper and are anxious for more information about the extent of impacts to the town.
Structural fire protection units are still fighting fires within the town and continue to fight fires moving from one building to another. We appreciate your patience as we work to make conditions in the town safe enough for a detailed assessment to be completed..."

I splurged and bought a face mask especially for wearing at the gym. Reviews for it look promising. I haven’t been wearing a mask at my gym because exertion while wearing a regular N95 or KN95 keeps triggering asthma attacks. I intentionally chose a gym with open bay doors in the summer and with very limited clientele to minimize my chances of contracting something airborne, but this mask will minimize it even more. Maybe it’ll make me feel safe enough to go on public transit or attend concerts again. And to top it off, it’s also going to save me from the smoke when Canada is inevitably on fire again. Yay. Canada has experienced its worst wildfire season, burning more than 5% of its forest area. The unprecedented fires have been fueled by climate change, drought, and wind, affecting all 13 provinces and territories. The fires have caused evacuations, air quality alerts, international aid requests, and smoke reaching Europe. #CanadaWildfires #ClimateCrisis #SmokeHaze phys.org/news/2023-10-canada-l

The air has been bad all summer and it’s been making me unwell. I’m back to using my emergency puffer a few times a week when before all the air pollution, I used it once every few months. I’d hoped that October would herald cleaner air, but it’s just as bad as the summer, and the temperature is way too high for this time of year. It’s predicted to hit 28 degrees today. I have to be out all afternoon for a doctor’s appointment. I’ll be wearing a mask everywhere in this suffocating heat. Previously, this is the time of year for heavy frost and I’d be wearing wool sweaters. I want to go camping on Halloween weekend. Please let the air be clean by then. Please let it be cool. I want to breathe easily and have energy. #ClimateDiary #CanadaWildfires #ClimateCatastrophe #RespiratoryDisease
