The “LLMs are so stupid they told me to eat rocks” barbs and mockery of image generators reminds me a lot of the early Wikipedia mockery. “It’s a great place to learn about Star Trek, but it’s unserious nonsense compared to Brittanica.”

There was also an identical freak out about its use by students.

Brittanica no longer exists.

These models will get better, and we’ll get better at using them. If you’re just mocking the tech as unserious or useless instead of figuring out how to use it for your own ends, you’re putting yourself at a huge disadvantage as it improves.
