#WritingWonders 18/Mar/25: Connection between plotting style and how MC gets goals?

Not really. I'm a plotter, as I write murder mysteries. But my MCs have to react to the murder and discover what clues they can. Planning only really comes into the final act, when they flush out the killer.

Yes. There's courtship (i.e. dating) and marriage. The latter takes different forms, depending on the culture.

We’ve been talking for a while about creating a #WritingHorrors series, similar to #WritingWonders / #WordWeavers / #WritersCoffeeClub, but for #writers of #horror, #DarkFantasy, or who just want to enhance their #writing with #dwrk elements in general.

This will be a series of short questions with a few longer #WritingPrompts mixed in, intended to help improve yourself as a #writer, and to improve whatever #story you’re working on.

Last year, I was talking about starting some sort of #WritingPrompt / #WritingQuestions hashtag for #Horror and #DarkFantasy #writers, like #WritingWonders or #WordWeavers / #WritersCoffeeClub, but this would be #WritingHorrors and ask questions about morbid topics within #stories.

#WritingWonders: What is your MCs first memory?

Evan's first memories are a confused mess of neural-net training scenarios. It's hard to distinguish and awareness only really comes in towards the end when they move from simulated training to QA testing that involves real humans.

In some ways, Carter isn't that different, as I think of consciousness of any kind we would understand necessarily evolving in similar ways. He's not sure which of his very early memories was first.>

Marissa has always loved cats and her first memory would definitely be doing something with the family cat.

Caylor’s (ghost) involves realizing quite young that he’s a disappointment to his father.

I have no idea for Dante, my werewolf.

Also, decided to reveal this WIP’s title, so here goes:

16/01:Do you have any writing rituals?

Yes? I've been answering #WordWeavers #Writingwonders and #Pennedpossibilities prompts rather religiously but my WIPs are suddenly at a place where the prompts actually interrupt my writing flow .
Thinking about whether I should or should not answer every morning isn't much better.
So that's probably it for the time being.
(Or rather, let's see how long it/I will last .)

I've been away from Mastodon for a while - is #WritingWonders still a thing?

A few months back I used a bunch of #WritingWonders prompts to flesh out a pair of characters in my head. That turned into a short story and a novelette, both of which have now found homes. The novelette just paid for Christmas.

1 year ago, at the urging of an online friend and with a great deal of assistance, I joined Mastodon. It has been a journey of discovery, and plenty more, where I've met a great number of diverse authors and learned /so much/ about the craft and the experience of writing that my mind wants to explode. Along the way, I've met numerous artists—who I'm following as perspective cover artists, as well as for genuine inspiration—photographers, pundits, and other creatives. Every day has been fun. I've enjoyed answering your questions from my experience as a writer. As a shy introvert, who's somewhat #autistic, you've gifted me the opportunity to experience community very unlike my experience as an author, pre-Internet. I might not have burnt out and had to rediscover writing had I had you'all around.
