The first lilacs starting to bloom. Saw some bees and wasps in them. It's a few days later than last year.

"Lilac," Kyriak Kostandi, 1902.

Kostandi (1852-1921) was a Ukrainian artist and scholar; he was a member of a group of Realists known as the Itinerants but also experimented with Impressionism, as we see here.

The delicate morning light touches the domes of a Ukrainian village, and outside a wall, by some blooming lilac bushes, a woman sits and weeps. We have no indication what is making her so sad, but it seems appropriate for the current situation in Ukraine. It's a beautiful, yet sad and enigmatic painting.

A somber Flower Friday, to be sure.

My lilacs! I love the colors…they start out dark purple, then open up to pale purple blossoms.

My lilac bushes are finally blooming! I didn’t even see them right away, I could just smell them on the breeze.

I’ve been watching the buds for several days, and today they popped! I love that they return, strong and healthy, year after year. They make me happy.

Will try to remember to post a photo or two tomorrow.
