I am getting the distinct impression that the bus driver is taking things slowly and carefully this morning. Which, given wet conditions on a twisty mountain descent, I am MORE than OK with. #Koyasan #CherryBlossoms2025

On the bus from #koyasan to the port to catch the ferry to Shikoku and #Tokushima . It is a very wet morning but since we’re in the bus, that’s fine. :)

One charming aspect of the family run inn attached to the Renge-in Temple is that the rooms are named after flowers rather than numbered. I was VERY amused by mine: #koyasan #CherryBlossoms2025

Arrived at the #koyasan monastery - dinner at 6 (so soon), bath available from 7. It is at least WARM inside, which is nice. Futon, so I may not sleep too well tonight but it is what it is.

I’m fairly sure that the photos won’t catch it, but the atmosphere of #okuin created by the centuries old cedars was just magical. #koyasan

Largest monument in this path through #okuin… mother of one of the Tokugawa shoguns… and built 400 years ago and well before 1878 which is when women were first allowed on #koyasan

Memorial to Masamune Date who was apparently the inspiration for Darth Vader #koyasan

At the Oku-in, well mostly not a cemetery more of a memorial park. This apparently dates to 997 and is the memorial for the first samurai. #koyasan

Apparently this is the only building from 1197 at #koyasan that has successfully resisted the distressing tendency of Japanese buildings to burn down (repeatedly)

So, apparently, this is actually TWO trees - a cedar and a pine growing together #koyasan
