I'm not sure how I missed this story for two weeks: a kayaker was swallowed by a humpback whale, then spit out. And his dad caught it on video. #PutDownTheCameraAndHelp

"'I spent a second realising I was inside the mouth of something, that maybe it had eaten me, that it could have been an orca or a sea monster,' the 23-year-old told BBC Mundo."

"'I felt a slimy texture brush my face,' he recalled, adding that all he could see was dark blue and white."

Damn, I broke my blog again. Thanks, git!

At least I wrote the post before checking the build chain, otherwise I would have just fixed the build chain instead, and the post would have remained unwritten.

I still need to fix the build chain. But tomorrow, I must go on my first #whitewater #kayak outing of the year.

So I beg patience from my readers. Yes, both of you.

my parents were boomers who always leaned a little hippy, so naturally we spent a good amount of time visiting Kaua’i when i was a kid, lol. ive hiked, swam, kayaked, open water snorkled, and lodged all over this island. and even when i was little, i was always captivated by this magical place. you have moments there that blur the lines of physical and metaphysical…it’s hard to explain.

this is a photo i took there in 2012…and sadly my last visit was in 2017 🥲 overdue for a visit 🖤🌴

Several answers…

Raccoons are mostly on the beach sites. Never seen them on/near chickees. They are after both food and fresh water.

Wildlife researchers say 90+% of the small mammals in the #Everglades are gone due to the #pythons! I don’t think this applies to the beach raccoons tho.

Lane Bay is a great place to camp!

Just to be clear: #Hobie still sells the “Revolution 13” #kayak model. Drive is much improved. I recommend anyone who is considering buying one to “downgrade” to the standard drive (does not have reverse). The reversible drive costs more, adds little value, and has many small moving parts that are impossible to maintain in the field.

Recently back from my 29th #Everglades #Kayak Trip!

We were met by an eleven foot long American Crocodile on the boat ramp. (Why is he grinning?) They are endangered and have a preserve on islands to the east. They must be recovering and spreading out—there are two big ones (11 and 15 feet long) now resident near the Ranger Station. Unlike #alligators they prefer salt water.
