I call this piece “Tradition”.

It’s a comment on the power of peer pressure from dead people.

I like some traditions, but the ones that inflict judgement or the ones that self-justify themselves because “this is the way it has always been” can be quite dangerous and unhealthy to some. Tradition can be wielded like a cudgel to deny things simply out of spite and hate or fear or convenience.

Tradition can regulate behavior in ways that are illogical and demeaning. It can pre-determine choices and restrict freedoms.

It can be a tool to generate fear.

There are far too many bad traditions, and I am a firm believer in the power of change. That people can be better humans and turn away from harmful traditions when they want or need to. The human capacity to make their own choices is valuable, and implies we have agency. That we can rise above our circumstance.

This piece is another in my series of "Red Cloaks" images. I think the filigree ended up looking like a metal die-cut instead of a built-up bead, but I still think it's effective none-the-less as something unique and interesting.

This piece is inspired by the fairytale, Little Red Riding Hood.

It can be purchased as a single greeting card here: https://goimagine.com/rose-path-single-illustrated-greeting-card-5x7-with-envelope/

It can also be purchased as part of a six-card variety pack of similar images here: https://goimagine.com/art-nouveau-red-cloak-variety-pack-of-greeting-cards-5x7-with-envelopes/

And, of course, here's the speedpaint where you can see how it all happened: https://makertube.net/w/o2soSxJ4bxbEeMnVkwQACe

This style of "Art Nouveau" (or whatever it is) really feels satisfying to me to work in. I've done a lot of images now in this mode, practicing it and refining it to make it more of my own. This image is an older image and one of the last that I'll be sharing here on Pixelfed before I launch into sharing my more recent pieces that each represent a specific story or tale.

This was the very very first piece I did after finding the work of Frances Macdonald McNair, who led me to discovering the Glasgow Four and their Scottish take on Art Nouveau. I then started contemplating the work of Charles “Rennie” Mackintosh.

I’ve always been enamored of the work of Pamela Zagarenski, too, and her capacity to collage texture. This image was a nod to her as well.

This piece was an exploration of textures and abstracted composition. I called it “Red ala Rennie”, and I worked to sort of reference the fairytale, Little Red Riding hood. I ended up making it a greeting card that you can find here:

It’s also part of a six-card variety pack that can be purchased here: https://goimagine.com/art-nouveau-variety-pack-of-greeting-cards-5x7-with-envelopes/

Here’s the livestream recording of when it was made. I was in a dour mood and frustrated that I wasn’t putting much of myself into my art but simply “transcribing” reference imagery from photos. This was a huge HUGE step toward me embracing my own instincts and leaning into what I wanted to do.

I got my first actual art stationery paper pack listed on my Goimagine shop.

50 pages of printed paper stationery (two different pages), with 10 assemble-yourself matching paper envelopes.

The pack features an Oriole, with soft pastel texture enhancements.

And it comes lined and unlined!

goimagine.com/illustrated-orio

We’ll see how this goes. My goal is to at least get the other 11 sets I’ve designed available on my shop, since I have those files and can print/pack/ship those easily.

Honestly, I’ve never put anything like this out there, and while I’ve seen downloadable packs all over the place, and thematic notepads of all sizes, I rarely see physical loose leaf printed paper stationery packs for sale.

But I think, perhaps, there is such a strong current against being online that the nostalgic and retro aspect of just writing letters and mailing them can be quite mentally relaxing. People are desperate to unplug and searching for ways to do that but still feel like they’re sharing something and connected.

Fingers crossed!

I got approved to be in my local Friday Night Market experience here in Eureka, CA! Woohoo!

I really hope selling things in person works, because trying to develop a presence through social media simply doesn’t work anything like it used to.

I sold less than $1000 last year trying to grow. I love the Fediverse, but honestly it’s a particularly brutal platform for artists trying to get the word out and sell their stuff. I’ve seen more than 2/3 of the artists I had been following simply abandon it since I joined in the fall of ’23. Hundreds and hundreds of artists...

I have a few other shows I want to participate in, but they’re pricey (both are over $225 for their two-day events). I know it takes money to make money, but wow. We figured out I’d need to sell 60 cards at one and 90 cards at the other just to break even after expenses. I’ve only sold just under 125 cards all year…

So it’s gonna be challenging. And I’m one of the lucky ones, to be truthful. So I’ll keep adding stuff to my Goimagine shop (I just added 14 cards over the last 3 days) and I’m working on getting some additional items up. But we’ll see! Yoinks! it’s gonna be interesting… hehe…

But celebrate the victories, right? And I got in!!! Woohooo! One step at a time!

this piece is called “Forest Stag”, and it’s supposed to appear symmetrical. I features to women in teal cloaks walking on opposite sides of a tree, but it’s also the head of a stag deer with the branches becoming antlers.

This piece was done entirely in Procreate, without any artificially generated image nonsense. I do it all by hand one stroke at a time on my iPad Pro.

This piece is called “These Three Boys”. It’s actually a piece of fanart—my first ever!

It’s inspired by the work of Ryan Cahill and his book series, The Bound and the Broken.

In doing this piece, I realized something that changed my perspective on the history of art… A massive , MASSive amount of our great classic art pieces in the Western vein are actually fanart. They illustrate moments from stories, taking various characters from various “IPs” and inventing art. Religious art is, essentially, fan art when looked at from that perspective. A huge amount of art illustrates famous moments from famous stories and histories, like stories of Greek and Roman myth, or fables. Or even famous people doing things, like this King conquers this thing or marches on that thing…

It’s really quite stunning how prevalent Fanart actually is when looked at from a certain perspective.

So this piece is in reference to the three main characters in Cahill’s epic fantasy series. It is also simultaneously inspired by the work of Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh.

You can find it as a greeting card here:https://goimagine.com/these-three-boys-single-illustrated-greeting-card-5x7-with-envelope/

It is also part of this variety pack of images here: https://goimagine.com/art-nouveau-variety-pack-of-greeting-cards-5x7-with-envelopes/

I haven’t posted anything here in a very very long while.

I’m going to fix that now.

This is piece is called “Garden Blooms”. It’s a greeting card listed on my Goimagine art shop both as an individual card and in a variety pack of six.

After a year and a half of putting it off, I finally—FINALLY—got my one of my very favorite bird images made into a greeting card.

I don’t know why I waited so long. I mean, I feel like it’s one of the best images I’ve ever done, so I’m puzzled with myself for not getting it done sooner.

I made this image on Oct 15, 2023. And I’ve consistently turned back to it as one of my portfolio pieces that I sometimes pin to my profiles on various platforms. Was I scared for some reason? Hm. I dunno.

So I finally just did it. Here’s the listing:

goimagine.com/illustrated-rufo

I will be putting up some more birds and making specific “regional” packs very soon. That’s on my list of things to do this week. So it’ll be available as part of a Variety Pack later on—I’ll let you know.

But if you’re interested in buying it individually, it’s now available. Whew!

I have an Art Nouveau version of Goldilocks and the Three Bears for sale as a greeting card on my Goimagine shop.

goimagine.com/goldilocks-and-t

It’s also part of a set of similar cards here:

goimagine.com/art-nouveau-fair

This image is one that really helped me start to shift away from “replicating” my inspirations toward feeling confident in my own skills. I took a leap to include illustrative elements that weren’t part of the work of my idols. It was an important step for me.

It was done entirely in Procreate, without any generative nonsense.

My stylized Art Nouveau painting inspired by“Jack and the Beanstalk” is finally available as a greeting card in my shop on Goimagine!

goimagine.com/jack-and-the-bea

I print them in my own studio on my own 8-color printer, then crease, package, and ship them to you directly. There’s no intermediary drop-shipping manufacturer involved. I do it all myself, and create each card as its ordered.

This piece is a richly textured abstracted illustration that I’m really proud of. I did it in Procreate without the assistance of any image generation ridiculousness. The piece took 9 hours to complete with 4714 strokes of my Apple Pencil. The front cover wraps around the spine to the back, and the interior is blank.

The third in my series of Fairytale-inspired pieces is Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

This new greeting card is available in my shop on Goimagine, and is done in an Art Nouveau style with rich textures and jewel tone colors.

goimagine.com/goldilocks-and-t

I use Procreate to make my art one stroke at a time, not artificial image generators. I print each card myself in my own studio on my own printer, package it up and ship it to you. These cards are not drop-shipped manufactured. Each one is printed, creased, and carefully handled by me.

I’m finally getting my illustrated Art Nouveau fairytale greeting card images listed on my Goimagine storefront! Whew!

Here’s the first of them: Sleeping Beauty

goimagine.com/sleeping-beauty-

I’m really proud of these cards. The process of making them is one that I truly relish and enjoy. I’m very happy to start getting these listed at last!

Whew! My latest set of digital print-it-yourself stationery is now available!

I made 23 different papers (lines and unlined versions) and 9 envelopes featuring the gorgeous Motmot that I think is one of my very favorite images I've ever done.

You can find it here:

I'm really happy with this one. I love teal blue and texture!!
