Eugene Parnell<p>Flowerpalooza in my hood part 4. It's not often that a Pacific Northwest native plant is also a showy, mainstream garden favorite but flowering currant (Ribes sanguineum) is actually both. There are many cultivars. I have one called 'Edward VII' which has white blooms instead of the standard pink, and I have to say, I prefer the pink. <br><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/nativeplants" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nativeplants</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Bloomscrolling" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Bloomscrolling</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/PNW" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PNW</span></a></p>
Purplejavatroll<p>Me: I have ordered 8 fruit trees that will have to be planted next month. I also have five raised beds to construct and fill. I must be insane. <br>Also me: Oh, I meant to order those kiwi vines, dammit. I wonder if it's too late to add to the order.<br><a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a></p>
Edge 🇨🇦🇲🇽🇺🇦🏳️‍🌈<p>Question for our <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/plant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>plant</span></a> people here. I'm finding many little Japanese maple seedlings growing in my front lawn, as the helicopters released over the last few weeks have sprouted. I am hoping to do something before the mowers come and put an end to their happy growth.</p><p>I've tried in previous years to 'transplant' a few into a small pot, but always failed at keeping them alive. </p><p>Any hints? Treat them as a house plant? Put them outside and try to remember to water them? It would be neat to keep a baby going this year.</p><p>All help appreciated.</p><p><a href="https://vmst.io/tags/Gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Gardening</span></a> <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/Trees" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Trees</span></a> <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/Transplant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Transplant</span></a></p>

Mark Wollschlager<p>The new raised bed situation is coming right along. After moving a literal ton of dirt and assorted compost, cow poo, and sphagnum moss. Aching joints.<br>Put the critter guard up today. I hope I only need the front yard caged. I'm ready to start choosing plants.<br>In my older raised bed I planted Arugula, Flashy Trout Back lettuce, Red Sails leaf lettuce, a cherry tomato. I had stuck some heirloom pea seed in the ground a couple of weeks ago but have not seen any sprouts.<br><a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/Gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Gardening</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/MyPhoto" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MyPhoto</span></a></p>

Hello Florida. This Minnesota vegetable garden has been no dig and no till for twenty years. All the weed suppression is from harvesting lawn clippings, leaf mulch, compost, cardboard, and in recent years wheat straw poultry bedding. The earthworms eat the mulch improving the garden soil quality. The rain drops don’t directly strike the soil. It’s a good cycle. <a href="https://epicure.social/tags/nodig" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nodig</span></a>, <a href="https://epicure.social/tags/notill" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>notill</span></a>, <a href="https://epicure.social/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a></p>

Pollinators<p>The afternoon of April 4, 2025. This is a sample of what the garlic space looks like in the vegetable garden. The soil probe is eight inches into the soil. Most of the garlic is waiting for warmer soil before surfacing. These two garlic shoots have experienced freezing temperatures.
