“AWS-LC looks like a very active project with a strong community. […] Even the recently reported performance issue was quickly fixed and released with the next version. […] This is definitely a library that anyone interested in the topic should monitor.”

Carmen-Lisandrette here.

I've told the Australian eSafety commission I want to participate in the consultation on how the social media ban for under-16s will be implemented.

I'm deeply concerned that the ban will prevent young people from being part of free software communities. If you're someone who runs a free software project or community and have concerns you want me to bring to the commission, please share them with me at carmen@missionlibre.org.

If Mission:Libre is selected to take part in June, I'll be talking about what free software communities have to offer young people. I will also highlight how the ban might affect Mission:Libre's plans to run online communities for teens and its possible effects on people that refuse proprietary software on ethical grounds, either as users or as service providers.

Please be aware that the consultation isn't about the ban itself, only the implementation. However, the law gives the eSafety commission quite a bit of discretion. I'll encourage them to do what they can to help.

Mission:Libre will also make a submission on New Zealand's proposed ban if it goes to select committee.
