I just got in on the fad of "put sweet potato in your aquarium". Didn't really know how we're supposed to do it, so I just stuck one whole thing on Saturday and now it has some roots growing out of it.

Having to put another fish to sleep is a really shitty way to start a Monday.

This is the problem with the #fishkeeping hobby - when you setup a tank and stock it with a load of babies, they all grow up together, but they all grow old together too. So you end up losing them one after another.

I think I might hang up my buckets once these all pass.

I closed a drawer on my thumbnail pretty darn hard. There was much profanity. I am now watching my oscar fish Jeff trying to fit more food in his mouth which is so full he can't fully close it. It’s hard to tell how tiny pea puffer fry are so I set the container on a dime while they were having baby brine shrimp for breakfast. Such cute little guys.

Mr Kitten of Note is in the bad books this week! He unplugged the aquarium and killed our silver dollar fish and catfish.

I've had Amano Shrimps in my tank for 3 years, this is the first time I've seen one with eggs

Here's the tricky part: in their larvae stage, Amano Shrimps require brackish/saltwater, but freshwater once they reached their final stage.

I had an algae problem in my 55gal freshwater aquarium.

I had to go out of town for several days. Instead of keeping the lights on the programmed timer while I was away I kept them turned off.

Returned from my trip after 5 days and no sign of algae when I turned the lights back on. The plans and moss are doing well and not covered in algae.

All the fish are still alive and everything looks good.

When the problem re-occurs I'll go through the same process. Turn off the lights for a period of time...
