#FamilySecrets I came across a gruesome family secret, very close in my family tree. My paternal grandfather‘s sister was married twice, the first time to a real ogre that she ended up suing and winning a divorce from for cruelty, after only two years. He remarried 3 weeks after the divorce, and then the following winter, 3 weeks before Christmas, fatally shot his 2nd wife in the heart, and then himself. The families had separate funerals, & they are buried in different cemeteries. Stanley-13596

This was SO good. The stories are still rattling around in my head.

I think it'd have resonance even for someone without connections to that environment & society. I grew up in #Indonesia and my father (not openly until much later) was bi and had homosexual relationships while (and after) we lived there (wasn't someone asking about #familySecrets recently? Well there you go).

Anyway. Highly, highly recommend.

Minuteman Library NetworkHappy stories, mostly"Happy Stories, Mostly is a short story collection by queer Indonesian author Norman Erikson Pasaribu. Blending together speculative fiction and absurdism, these stories ask what it means to be almost happy-to nearly find joy, to sort-of be accepted, but to never fully grasp one's desire"--

I recently discovered a real life mystery in my family tree!

One of the closer-distant relatives (something like 3rd cousin 3x removed or 4th cousins 2x removed) straight up disappeared one day in 1914 and there seems to be absolutely no record or paper trail of him after the newspaper article announcing him missing.

It also sounds like some sort of book or movie plot that the last thing he was known to have done was remove all his savings from the bank.
