I don't want to jinx anything, but sometimes a game just installs and works!

Dead Space from 2008 on Linux Mint, installed using Wine Tricks. Probably didn't need to use the latter but I wasn't sure going in that things would be so smooth.

This is the Gog version, so no discs or DRM to contend with! Unfortunately the control scheme is still bonkers - at least for a leftie - but I managed to wrestle them into something that's usable for me.

I've been playing Dead Space (remake) for the last couple of weeks. Currently in chapter 8.

My favorite aspect is strategizing how to best use your weapons and very limited supply of ammo for each confrontation. You can't just mindlessly shoot your way through the game.

Dead Space puts so much effort into immersion and its HUD, and then this. I’ve written before that I don’t like these overlays, and again, the information they contain could have been conveyed diegetically. Anyway, I played through the game!

Even without the Necromorph infestation, I can’t imagine the USG Ishimura from #DeadSpace as a pleasant place to live and work. Everything seems inhuman, made of grim, brutal steel, cramped, cooped up, with no room to breathe. In contrast, the Sevastopol of #AlienIsolation seems like a place that doesn’t look too bad to spend time in normal operation. — #ShareYourGames #Videogames #Gaming
