I walked around on campus yesterday, and suddenly heard the krrri-krri-krrri-krrri-krrri sound I last heard last year in summer. That means the kestrels are back, and we hopefully have a new nest in the hole a few meters above my office window.

If you know him and he's on Mastodon, feel free to tag!
Trying to maintain some semblance of PMA (Positive Mental Attitude) even with impending theft of Social Security Trust, and subsequent collapse of Medicare. That's a heavy loss to Kübler-Ross. Hoping not to end up in the shock-crisis phase. Taking long hikes helps a bit.
A good day for birds. Met this very determined Eastern Bluebird that was bringing nesting materials to a nesting box, but stopped long enough to pose.

January 3rd 2025 I was up at my regular feeding area and grabbed a short set of clips of the birds dropping down to grab a snack. #birds #BirdPhotogaphy #nature #naturephotography #Scotland #Alyth

For the first time in many years… it has taken close to 3 months to start #birdwatching outings for the year
Switching career track to blame… old dog takes a little longer to learn new tricks ;-)
Anyway… the air feels fresh and weather is just right to be spent outside. Would be a perfect day if I get to see a roadrunner today.
Meanwhile here’s something from a few years ago ;-)
Feeding in February
It's February 2nd and the weather isn't that great but at least there's decent light for my wanders and photography. I'm constantly saying it but it's very true; we are so lucky with the bird and wildlife around us, I don't even need to leave this seat sometimes and I can get great shots of the garden visitors. #Birds #BirdPhotogaphy #naturephotography #gardenbirds #Scotland #Perthandkinross
This is what I feel like after recent news cycle.
Nuthatch Freeze!
January 22nd - Since we've retired, we've lost all of our daily drivers; must get up for work; got chores to do; Breakfast / lunch / Dinner time .... and we're loving it, apart from never really knowing what day it is, what time it is Is that such a bad thing? Anyway, I headed up to the oak tree for my walk and photo session for the day. #photography #Birds #BirdPhotogaphy #naturephotography #Alyth #Scotland #Perthandkinross
Hiding out at the old Oak
My wonderful lady bought me a portable hide for my birthday so ...... I ported it down to the old Oak feeding area to catch those damned Jays out, hah! They'd never know I was there, right? Looks like the Treecreeper knows! There's one thing I love about Great Spotted Woodpeckers. I think she knows! Definitely! I was very still and very quiet. #Birds #BirdPhotogaphy #nature #naturephotography #Scotland #Perthandkinross #Alyth #rspb

Caught a warbling white-eye (if my research is correct) enjoying a cut in a half orange in the tree of somebody's backyard. What a cutie

Garden Birds 2025
Into February It's been a very varied but mostly wet and windy January / February, as I type this there's a decent breeze blowing through and the wind and snow of the past few days drove a lot of birds to our feeders. Good for me maybe not so great for them? I was seeing this female Blackbird fairly regularly but haven't for a while now; she has a bad leg or foot so I hope she's managed ok. #photography #Birds #BirdPhotogaphy
Caught a calm #gull outside the aquarium yesterday. Had no fucks to give about all the humans. #birds #BirdPhotogaphy
