"The New Yorker profiled Bluesky CEO Jay Graber.

It also includes a nugget that Graber and Mastodon founder Eugen Rochko met about having the platforms interoperate, but “each told me that the other seemed more interested in having the rival platform migrate onto their own protocol,” author Kyle Chayka writes."

Don't forget to support your Fedi admins in any way you can.

Fediverse isn't run by multi-billion dollar companies, and in a lot of cases, is simply run by kind folks who just want to have a nice social media platform.

Therefore, there's a high chance that the server costs come out of their pockets.

Support your admins. They help Fedi go round.🫶

Storing #RDF or #LinkedData is the easy part (I am working on #activitypub client, so everything is JSON-LD anyway), but as soon as I need to formulate queries like "Give me list of the activities from all the actors who are on the following collection of my user, sorted by published/updated date", the amount of data mangling that I need to do is already making me think "ok, why don't I just push all of this to sqlite?"

#couchdb experts (@janl, @nolan), any suggestions here?

I am getting more and more #ActivityPub accounts (or ActivityPub actors).

Most of them have a bio pointing to my main account, but it would be nice to be able to make rules for all ActivityPub accounts for a given person.

Something like
- Make sure I follow all accounts of this person
- Hide reposts by this person, except if he reposts his other accounts
- Trim mentions, so I don't mention the same person multiple times
- Hide notifications from my other account.

This is CogDogBlogged: "WordPress Serving Posts at the Activity Pub"

There’s times when I sit down at this here new post page thinking I have something to write about… and find out I have already done so. Well, the thing is open so I can add a bit more wood to the post pile.

Just in February I wrote about a fleet of WordPress sites I have set up to be residents on the Fediverse via the ActivityPup plugin and the team behind it keeps making it […]

" What country level domain name extensions are available for everyone?! "
The following, should be available to anyone to register. However, some (see list) will require a "domain agent" if you do not live or own a business in these countries. Many domain registers are happy to be your "domain agent", but you should check first with the register.

I did some changes to my almost static #activitypub enabled blog, which enables @blog and @badgefed so now it can show the real number of followers.

I have only updated the #badgefed one. I am planning to migrate @vocalcat to such format because having a bot account does not make sense for the #fediverse. I rather post real uodates.

I will edit my series in the following days.

This is how you run a Fedi website outside Us Jurisdiction.

mk.absturztau.be = Domain (.be) name is Belgium, while hosted in Switzerland, and the hosting provider is governed under the laws of Switzerland.

mastodon.au = Domain (.au) name is Australia, while hosted in Australia, and the hosting provider is governed under the laws of Australia.

Remember, Dot Com, Net, Org, Info, Us, and Edu is governed by the United States of America. Most word-based domain names, for example, Dot Social, managed by Corporations within the USA.

So, remember how a couple of days ago, I said I was going to try to turn a Wordpress site into a Fediverse solo instance?

I tried.

First, I took an old unused site, I stripped it of all unnecessary plugins and installed all the ActivityPub related plugins. I could log in with Elk and Phanpy with it, followed a few people, posted a few things...

However, while I could see the Fediverse, the site remained invisible to the rest of the Fediverse. I have no idea why.

Step two: I took another active site that already has the ActivityPub plugin. I activated the "author accounts" installed a few more plugins and... It's a bit of a mess. It's very slow, I can log in with Phanpy but not with Elk. I can follow the account from Mastodon or Firefish, but I don't see the posts. (when I post a regular blog post, it eventually shows up on my regular feeds but it can take time). And it's overall very slow.

So in conclusion, I warmly advise you to set up the ActivityPub plugin to your Wordpress sites so that people can follow them from the Fediverse, but that's it. Using a Wordpress site as a "regular" Fediverse instance is a fun experiment, but it's not very practical. Maybe it is if you're way more knowledgeable than me about server things and can tweak yours, probably.

Next, I'm really curious about Ghost on the Fediverse, but I already have a hosted Ghost newsletter, I'm not sure if it's wise to start yet another blog/newsletter on GhostPro. Maybe I should just wait for federation to become available for all Ghost installations.
