I don't remember what year I first noticed Dawn of the Dead, but I know that the first version I saw was cut to ribbons - and it still blew me away. Right after I ordered (for a shitload of money) a Dutch tape with the European cut and it blew me away even more!

Few movies have shown chaos and the collapse of a society as well as George A. Romero's follow-up to his Night of the Living Dead, and few horror movies changed genre cinema as much as what that one did.
I've seen it so many times over the years, and the European cut or the theatrical is the way to go if you ask me, even if the extended is damn good - but a bit too long. Still superb filmmaking of course.
Dawn of the Dead have a rough style, it feels a bit unpolished - and that makes it even stronger in its message, gore, terror and characters. It feels hopeless, even with that - kinda tacked on - "happy" ending. A masterpiece. One of the best movies ever made.
