@erinwhalen where I live in Canada, the gas company Enbridge offers rebates for customers who get heat pumps through them. They know the technology is here to stay, but don't want to lose the customer base. Also, the conventional wisdom is that heat pumps won't work well enough in our cold winter climate, which is when the gas can kick in. We're getting a heat pump--not through Enbridge!--and plan to sever the gas line to our home entirely. The city just approved our gas-free mechanical plans!
