Scotch whisky supplier Simpsons Malt is launching a £45m project to install wind-powered electric heating at its main headquarters.
The company says the electrical boiler will reduce its carbon footprint by around 25,000 tonnes (about 55% of current emissions).
This is the first time that high-voltage electrical heating has been used for industrial processes in the UK’s private sector.

The #BioMass - #BioFuels bit is problematic. Why not invest in #BESS to insure 100% #RenewableEnergy use? @erinwhalen
@InfoMgmtExec - that's a good point! I was kind of wondering about the need for a biomass-fueled backup heater as well. It would be interesting to see how often that one gets used as opposed to the wind-powered main heater. Is there any public tracking of this kind of thing, I wonder?
Private Utilities rarely report such data unless required to do so. I wonder if this project is being promoted as a #CommunityEnergy scheme in #Scotland? @erinwhalen
