Imagine if all the great #Maya pyramids & temples looked more like this. 
Not just plain grey stone, but covered with elaborate stucco work in vivid colors.

This is one of the layers archaeologists discovered beneath the pyramid at #Copan. 
Thanks to being covered for about 1,400 years, it is incredibly well preserved, with stucco and even paint intact.

This is probably how they all were - brilliant cities, dazzling to behold.

@dk23 Dang. My stucco repairs certainly didn't last. Maybe it would have been better to bury them. Besides preserving them, it would have kept them out of sight--they weren't a joy to look at.
