My favorite road cycling tips:
- Have lights on all the time
- Your shadow points to drivers that may not see you due to low sun
- When on a narrow road, be assertive and take the lane
- Right of way is bullshit; wave and make eye contact with drivers
- never stop on the side of large vehicles that may be turning
- When descending fast, lower your center of gravity, relax, eyes to where your bike is going instead of the ground in front of your wheel
What are yours? #roadcycling #cyclingtips
@cyclinggeezr You've got all the basics covered. I would add :
- wear a helmet and stay away from the bullshit online debates regarding whether it should be mandatory or not
- wider tyres, lower pressure :D
- learn how to fix your bike (unless you're a pro rider )
@cyclinggeezr Pre-hydrate, hydrate, post-hydrate. Sunscreen. Appreciate but don't trust cars' turn signals. Smile and wave to drivers. Ask stopped cyclists if they need help. Hydrate some more. Carbs are your fastest way to get energy.
@cyclinggeezr
- Drink on the :15s; a bottle an hour in the summer here
- Be kind: always stop to help, offer a tube, share some water, buy someone a snack, hang back and ride with the last person
- Never turn down a good soda / ice cream / coffee stop / mid-ride meal with folks; you may be too full when done but that's a problem for future you, and one best faced happy
@cyclinggeezr for long distances, stretching is more important than you think.
