I'm fortunate that the area I live in is near the edge of the city, and my house backs onto a green space (used for storm drainage and flood control, as well as a walking/bike path). The green space goes the rest of the way to the edge of the city, so there's a lot of wildlife that comes by, and through, our yard.

We get lots of White-tailed Jackrabbits (actually a kind of ...) in the winter. I shot these today out my front door as it was nice out, just below freezing, and I could leave the door open to take pictures through.

This fellow - or lady - is quite the handsome beast. I think he knows it. He's looking dead at me in the first photo, because I'm five meters away with a device that's making weird clicky noises and I'm moving a bit.

In the second picture, you can see their are exactly like a domestic rabbit's.

A photograph of a hare (White-tailed jackrabbit) in close-up, looking directly at the camera. His or her head and partial body fill the frame. This is taken in winter, so their coat has changed to mostly white, with darker markings on the ears and nose. The whiskers are visible but out of focus. There is no background to speak of. The eye on the south-facing side of the hare's head clearly shows a reflection of the bright overcast sky, and dark markings right around the eye appear like it is wearing makeup. It's a handsome beast.
Another photograph of the same jackrabbit as the previous photo. In this one, the head is turned somewhat, so it's more like a 3/4 shot. It's the same white fur with dark markings on the ears and nose, and a hint of colour around the mouth. Visible in this show is the "muzzlepouche" upper lip/cheeks and the lower lip, forming the classic slightly-worried upside-down "Y" shape. You can see that the lips are covered with fuzzy fur.
