I'm wondering if you have any #thoughts on the "#Web #Environment #Integrity" proposal by some #Google folks. I wrote a short thread about it, but would be interested in hearing your thoughts before reading it (if you do read it - I'm not demanding it ).

Re: it's essentially a proposal to #lock #down #browsers so they can't do things the web #publishers don't want - think #adblockers, #extensions that modify content, etc.

@cazabon I discussed this at some considerable length in other posts on here earlier today. If you dig around you may be able to find them or maybe not given the way Mastodon works. The short answer is it's too early to render any kind of significant verdict, and I would urge avoiding hyperbole when reacting to a project in this very early stage that has not been really illuminated in other than engineering terms that most people do not fully understand.
Fair enough; I didn't see them. I'll go hunting. Thanks.
I'm a #software #engineer of <mumble> years with extensive work in #network/#internet/#web fields - and the proposal alarms me, simply because so many of the things that make the web #open and #useful to people now would, fairly obviously, not be able to earn a "#trusted" designation by any #WEI "#attester" -- at least not one that had any intention of being #accepted/#blessed by #Chrome etc.
