Big business in North America and some other places - some of Europe, plus portions of the economy in Japan, Korea, and various others - is widely seen as unwilling or unable to innovate and invest in its own future.
The reason for it boils down to personal greed. This take isn't even very controversial; it's certainly not original. But I have a proposal that might be, and might help fix it.
14/39 Another classic, that we've seen way, way too often: income stable but flat. Profits also flat. The company can be making good money, but because the numbers don't go up, the market punishes the stock. CEOs know this. If they can't boost sales, they need to trim costs. In a good tech company, research and development tends to be a large "cost centre". Surely we just cut that by 25%, or 40%, or 50% ...
